Catholic Reformation vs. Counter Reformation

“What is the difference between the Catholic Reformation and Counter Reformation?”
Thesis: The Catholic Reformation is the Counter Reformation, with the former term preferred by Catholics and the latter preferred by Protestants.
· Both terms are applicable in ways
· Catholic Reformation
o Probably would have underwent some reform on its own if Protestantism hadn’t come about
o Did go through a genuine reform independent of Protestant influence
· Counter Reformation
o Reform was largely a response to Protestantism
o Though there was reform, there was also a large amount focused entirely on negating influence of Protestantism.
