Lochner, Book Burning

On May 10, 1933, the Nazi party held a mass book burning that destroyed all literature displeasing to the Third Reich -Nazi had sent raiding parties to public and private libraries -students, led by Dr. Goebbels (Nazi Propaganda Minister), burned all books on a giant pyre -ensuing rituals were almost tribal -Dr. Goebbels declared a "new age of German revolution" -convinced audience that the spirit of Germany would rise from the ashes like a phoenix -People took a vow to Hitler -"The Reich and the Nation and our Fuehrer Adolf Hitler: Heil! Heil! Heil! -International viewers were shocked -"What happened to the 'Land of Thinkers and Poets'?"
