What is Enlightenment? Immanuel Kant (Excellent Question)

Thesis: The Enlightenment was an age when critical intellect flourished, and intellectual growth was achieved by using one's own intelligence.

-"Enlightenment is man's leaving his self-caused immaturity."

-Kant states that doctors, pastors, and other authorities further the immaturity of men, and warns against dependence upon them.

-Kant also addresses how women are restricted by society.

-Kant's definition of immaturity is "lacking the courage or ability to use one's own intelligence"

-Therefore enlightenment is achieved only when men revoke the accepted norms of the past, form their own opinions, and manage their own affairs.

-Independence goes hand in hand with enlightenment, especially independent thought.
